World Day for Safety and Health at Work: What about talking about naps?
To mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we interviewed Laurent, co-founder of Petits Cadors and a true expert on power naps in the workplace. At Petits Cadors, we've long advocated the virtues of rest at work... and Laurent embodies this mindset perfectly. A quick look at his daily routine!
Do you take a power nap every day? For how long?
Yes, every day for about 3 years.
Where do you sleep at the office?
In a soft nap cocoon that allows for a little isolation.
How long is your ideal nap?
It usually lasts 12 minutes. I always set the alarm on my phone.
How do you wake up from your nap? Straight to work or does it take you 5 minutes to land?
Directly operational! We're not if we fall into a deep sleep phase, which can happen after 20 minutes. So in theory, if we don't exceed this threshold, everything is fine.
Do you encourage napping at work at Petits Cadors and why?
Yes! But for now I'm having trouble convincing the team 🙂
Midday micro-naps have many benefits: you are more alert, in a better mood, you feel a boost of energy and you can even be more creative.
It is also interesting to improve teamwork in the second part of the day.
Do you think companies should integrate naps like they integrate coffee breaks?
Absolutely. It's not about making it mandatory, of course, but I think it's a real health benefit for employees and an improvement to the working environment.
What is your essential item for a nap between noon and 2 p.m. at the office?
Without hesitation, our Salvador cushion!
What makes Salvador really practical in the office?
It's very compact and therefore easy to store. It can be used on an office chair if it has a headrest. This is actually the first use we had envisioned for this cushion!
If you had to convince a business owner to equip their premises with them, what would you say?
To experiment on him and note the benefits he sees. That's probably enough to convince him!
To take care of your health at work
At Petits Cadors, we believe that workplace well-being is achieved through simple but powerful habits. Here are some easy tips to adopt to maintain your health every day:
-
Take regular breaks: Take a few minutes every 90 minutes to walk, stretch, or simply change your posture.
-
Arrange your workspace: A comfortable chair, good lighting and a calm environment promote concentration and avoid muscular tension.
-
Stay hydrated: Drinking water regularly helps you stay alert and prevent headaches related to dehydration.
