Neck comfort: a major issue for our well-being

Our neck, this delicate yet essential structure, supports the weight of our head and ensures its mobility. But did you know that our head weighs an average of 5 kilos? Did you also know that when you lean it forward to check your phone, it feels as if it weighs 30 kg! It is therefore essential to take care of it to avoid pain and neck problems. This is the whole purpose of our research and what led us to become a cushion manufacturer, specializing in head comfort.

Understanding Cervical Problems

First, let's talk a little about the different problems that can occur in your neck. Neck pain, or cervicalgia, is a common condition that can have a variety of causes:

  • Poor posture : Prolonged use of screens, prolonged sitting, or carrying heavy loads can lead to muscle tension and pain.
  • Stress : Chronic stress can cause muscle tension, especially in the neck and shoulders.
  • Trauma : Accidents, falls, or whiplash injuries can cause cervical injuries.
  • Cervical osteoarthritis : This degenerative disease affects the joints of the neck, causing pain and stiffness.

Symptoms and consequences

Now that we have outlined the main possible origins of cervical problems, here are the different ways in which they can manifest themselves:

  • Neck, shoulder, and upper back pain
  • A stiff neck
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Numbness or tingling in the arms and hands

In the long term, untreated neck problems can lead to chronic pain, movement limitations and a decreased quality of life.

Cervical pathologies

Finally, here are the main pathologies that can affect the cervical region. I would like to point out that this area is the pillar of cephalic mobility and, as such, a complex biomechanical structure: it is composed of seven vertebrae (C1 to C7), intervertebral discs, ligaments, muscles and nerves. This area can present different pathologies:

  • Common cervicalgia : Neck pain without neurological involvement, often linked to muscular or ligament tension.
  • Cervical osteoarthritis : Degeneration of the cervical joints, leading to pain, stiffness and sometimes nerve compression.
  • Cervical disc herniation : Protrusion of the nucleus pulposus of an intervertebral disc, which can compress the nerves and cause radiculopathy.
  • Cervical trauma : Injuries to cervical structures (fractures, sprains, ligament injuries) due to violent shock.
  • Torticollis : Involuntary muscle contraction of the neck, resulting in abnormal head posture.

Petits Cadors: the French expert in head comfort

For optimal comfort and a physiological posture every day, we have created a complete range of cushions for travel, home, or outdoor use. Cushions specially designed to gently support the head and relieve neck tension. With an original design (patents or registered models) and soft fillings of high-end pillows, our cushions support the head and allow you to maintain postures with slight inclinations for the neck, therefore physiological, which prevents tension and therefore pain.

Also note that our cushions like ( SALVADOR , EPICUR or ELLIPSE ) are designed to support the skull. These cushions form a rim on which the entire area surrounding your head rests (left and right temporal bone and occipital bone, at the back of your skull). Thus, your skull is as if placed in the cushion, your cervical vertebrae are relieved of the weight of your head and your neck muscles can relax.

Of course, our cushions are not medical cushions and are not designed to treat any of the conditions mentioned above. If you have any doubts, or if you recognize yourself in the symptoms described above, consult your general practitioner, who can refer you to a specialist if necessary.

On the other hand, Petits Cadors cushions, designed to minimize stress on cervical structures, promote comfort and pain prevention. They can help you take care of your neck on a daily basis by avoiding postures that generate tension and allowing the neck muscles to relax. As the saying goes: Prevention is better than cure! And this has never been more important than today when every French person spends more than 3.5 hours with their head bent over their phone!

Bonus: Prevention

Here are some tips to help keep your neck healthy:

  • Adopt good posture: Make sure to keep your back straight and your shoulders relaxed, especially when sitting or in front of a screen.
  • Do stretching exercises: Regularly practice gentle exercises to stretch your neck and shoulder muscles.
  • Set up your workstation: make sure your screen is at the right height and that your chair offers good lumbar support.

Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation or yoga which can promote overall muscle relaxation.
